Wind Energy Index Hits 6-week Low

The National Bank of Angola cut its key interest rate by 50 bps to 18.5% at its November 2025 meeting, marking the second consecutive reduction this year. The decision reflects improving macroeconomic conditions, particularly slowing inflation, and monetary indicators pointing to reduced short-term inflationary pressures. Angola’s annual inflation rate eased further to 17.43% in October 2025, the lowest since October 2023, extending the downward trend that began in August 2024. Policymakers noted that inflation is expected to keep decelerating through year-end, supported by adequate liquidity, greater availability of essential goods, and relative exchange-rate stability. For 2025, inflation is now projected at 17.0%, with a margin of ±0.5 percentage points, compared to a previous estimate of 17.5%, while preliminary forecasts for 2026 point to a further decline to 13.5%.

Angola Slashes Key Policy Rate to 18.5%

Lumber futures fell toward $540 per thousand board feet, near September 2024 lows amid a significant oversupply in the market coupled with persistent weakness in demand. The market is facing a substantial physical overhang as housing starts and building permits remain below year-ago levels, curbing consumption. Sawmills maintained output too high for a weakening cash market, leaving dealer yards with bloated stocks. This oversupply was magnified by speculative front-loading of inventories by buyers earlier in the year to hedge against tariff risks, and that stock is now being liquidated at a discount into a soft market. This situation, combined with high mortgage rates and the seasonal slowdown in construction, has forced major producers to announce production cuts and mill closures to help rebalance the market.

Lumber Near September-2024 Lows

Rice futures traded around $10.5 per hundredweight, holding close to their highest since October 17, as markets reacted to forecasts of tighter supply. The USDA’s November WASDE report showed a dimmer outlook for 2025/26 US rice, projecting lower supplies, steady domestic use and exports, and reduced ending stocks. US rice production is now estimated at 207.31 million hundredweight, down 1% from the previous estimate and 7% below last year, driven by declines in both yield and harvested area, at 7,506 pounds per acre and 2.762 million acres, respectively. Globally, the report forecasts slightly lower supplies, marginally higher consumption, increased trade, and reduced ending stocks. Meanwhile, bumper harvests are still anticipated in major Asian exporters, particularly India, which experienced its strongest monsoon in five years.
