The S&P Global Egypt PMI rose to 49.6 in August 2026 from 46.8 in July, signaling the softest deterioration in operating conditions since January as the non-oil sector moved closer to stabilisation. Output and new orders declined at slower rates, with the fall in new business the least marked since February amid signs of improving market activity. Employment also increased for the first time since October 2025, with job creation reaching its second-fastest rate on record. However, purchasing activity contracted at the sharpest pace in nearly three years, as material shortages, cash-flow constraints, delayed payments, and Strait of Hormuz disruptions weighed on buying activity. Meanwhile, price pressures quickened for the first time since May, with both input costs and output charges rising at faster rates. Despite the challenges, business confidence climbed to its highest level since June 2022, supported by expectations of new projects, tourism expansion and branch openings.

Egypt Non-Oil Private Sector Activity Hits 7-Month High

Riyad Bank Saudi Arabia’s PMI rose to 53.8 in August 2026 from 53.1 in July, marking the highest reading in six months and a fifth consecutive month of expansion in the non-oil private sector. Output expanded at the fastest pace in seven months, while new orders also increased for a fifth straight month, although intense competition and excess supply weighed on some firms. Export orders fell sharply and at a faster pace than in July amid continued regional tensions. Employment increased for a second consecutive month, while backlogs declined for a third month, pointing to spare capacity. Supply conditions improved further, encouraging firms to raise input purchases at the fastest pace since February. Inflationary pressures remained elevated, with material, transportation and staff costs rising, although output price inflation eased to its slowest since March. Lastly, business confidence rebounded to a seven-month high.

Saudi Non-Oil Private Sector Growth at 6-Month High

Foreign direct investment (FDI) disbursed in Vietnam rose 12.0% year-on-year to USD 17.25 billion in the first eight months of 2026, marking the highest level of FDI implementation for the first eight months of a year since at least 2008 and underscoring continued investment in the economy. Meanwhile, total registered foreign investment reached USD 40.63 billion as of August 31, up 55.4% from the same period last year. The figure includes newly registered capital, adjusted capital and capital contributions and share purchases by foreign investors. Separately, investment capital disbursed from the State budget increased 18.5% year-on-year to VND 546.8 trillion during the period, equivalent to 50.5% of the annual plan. Of this, locally managed investment reached VND 470.9 trillion, up 20.4%, while centrally managed investment totaled VND 75.9 trillion, up 7.9%.

FDI Into Vietnam Up 12% YoY in Jan-Aug

Corn futures fell below $5.2 per bushel, easing from a three-year high as traders took profits following the recent rally. Still, concerns over US yields and potential export demand continued to support prices. The latest USDA report showed the corn crop holding at 57% good-to-excellent as of August 30, while recent field assessments pointed to mixed and, in some areas, lower-than-expected yields, raising doubts over the size of this year’s harvest. Meanwhile, Chinese officials are reportedly discussing purchases of US agricultural products, including corn, ahead of a potential Trump-Xi meeting. Global supply concerns also persist, with the EU forecasting its 2026 maize harvest at nearly a 20-year low, while disruptions to Black Sea grain shipments remain a risk to exports. Ahead of the USDA’s weekly export sales report, traders expect US old-crop corn sales of up to 200,000 metric tons and new-crop sales of as much as 1.6 million tons, keeping attention on overseas demand.
