Bond yields eased as the halt in the oil rally cooled concerns over energy-driven inflation, lending support to credit-sensitive shares. Financials advanced, with Itaú up 1.8% and Bradesco rising 0.9%. Utilities also gained, with Axia up 2.5%. The financial market lowered its 2026 Selic forecast from 13.75% to 13.50%, while raising its 2026 inflation forecast from 4.90% to 4.92%, according to the BCB’s Focus Bulletin.

Ibovespa Rises on Lower Oil Prices

The Dow Jones Index went up by 366 points or 0.71 percent on Monday to close at 52049 points. The rise was led by Nvidia (2.29%), Goldman Sachs (1.98%) and Merck (1.97%). On the downside, the weakerst performers were Chevron (-2.83%), Coca-Cola (-1.14%) and Home Depot (-0.81%).

The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.6% to close at 36,009 on Monday, supported by gains among major banks. Oil prices fell on hopes for diplomatic progress between the US and Iran. BoC Governor Macklem said monetary policy cannot reverse tariffs or change gasoline prices, while the BoC must assess their lasting effects on inflation and growth. Energy shares fell, with Canadian Natural (-2.2%) and Suncor (-2.7%). Miners also declined, with WPM losing 1.6%.

TSX Rises as Banks Gain

Brent crude fell below $100 a barrel on Monday, extending losses for a fourth session after US President Trump reportedly decided against bombing Yemen for now and indicated he was open to diplomacy with Iran. Trump reportedly rejected calls from Saudi Arabia to strike the Houthis and said he would probably be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during this week’s UN General Assembly in New York. Meanwhile, crude exports from the Middle East have proven resilient even after Saudi Arabia closed its East-West pipeline following attacks. Saudi Arabia moved crude through the Strait of Hormuz at 2.9 million barrels a day over the past six days. Satellite images showed supertankers with capacity for 14 million barrels at Saudi Arabia’s Gulf export terminals over the weekend, the highest tanker count observed since at least June. Overall, however, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continued to decline.
