The NZX 50 climbed 26 points, or 0.2%, to 13,385 in Tuesday morning trade, erasing losses from the previous session and tracking a rally on Wall Street overnight, buoyed by easing oil prices after the US and Iran reached a peace deal. Healthcare, consumer staples, utilities, and consumer discretionary stocks mainly supported the index. However, fresh data limited the gains, as New Zealand's food inflation accelerated to 3.2% in May. Traders also awaited the release of a slew of economic data from China later today, while anticipating this week's release of New Zealand's Q1 GDP data and the Fed's monetary policy decision. Delegat Group surged 10.7% after the company revised its full-year earnings forecast upward. Other early gainers were A2 Milk (1.0%), Contact Energy (0.9%), Chorus (0.7%), and Ebos Group (0.3%).

Annual food inflation in New Zealand accelerated to 3.2% in May 2026 from April’s 14-month low of 2.6%, the first acceleration in three months. The increase was mainly driven by meat, poultry, and fish; fruit and vegetables; and grocery food prices. On a monthly basis, food prices rose 1.0% after being flat in April.

South Korea’s import prices rose 24.8% year-on-year in May 2026, accelerating from a 20.2% increase in April. Price gains were led by raw materials, which climbed 38.9%, driven by a 42.4% increase in mining product prices. Intermediate goods prices rose 26.8%, reflecting sharp increases in coal and petroleum products (73.1%), basic metal products (32.8%), chemical products (26.1%), and computers, electronic and optical equipment (23.2%). Meanwhile, prices of capital goods increased 4.8%, while consumer goods prices rose 6.3%.

South Korea Import Prices Rise in May

South Korea’s export prices surged 46.9% year-on-year in May of 2026, the largest rise since March 1998 . he increase was mainly driven by  manufactured goods, which rose 46.9%, with computers, electronic and optical equipment surging 104%. Prices also rose for coal products and petroleum products (88.6%),  basic metal products (31.6%), and chemical products  (28.3%). Meanwhile, prices of aagricultural, forestry and marine products increased 32.4%.
