The consumer price index in India rose 3.21% annually in February of 2026, picking up from the 2.74% in the previous month and loosely in line with market expectations of 3.1% to mark the fastest pace of inflation in 11 months. The increase reflected the normalization of Indian inflation after a pullback in food prices drove the headline rate to continuously test record lows late last year. The food inflation gague rose to 3.47% from 2.13% last month. Prices also rose firmly for restaurants and accommodation (2.73%), clothing and footwear (2.81%), and paan and tobacco (3.49%). In turn, prices fell for transportation (-0.05%) amid the pullback in oil and gas costs in the wholesale market, which are set to rise in March due to the war in the Persian Gulf. From the previous month, prices inched higher by 0.11%.

India Inflation Rises to 11-Month High

The unemployment rate in Malta rose to 3.4% in the fourth quarter of 2025 from a revised 3.1% in the same period last year. The number of unemployed individuals increased by 1,387 to 11,544, while the number of inactive persons grew by 2,699 to 165,967. Women accounted for 58.3% of the total inactive population, with those aged over 65 representing the largest share. The main reason for inactivity was people reaching retirement age or opting for early retirement (43.7%). Meanwhile, the employment rate edged up to 79.8% from 79.7%, with the number of employed persons rising by 9,465 to 330,614. The activity rate for the quarter also went up to 82.7% from 82.2% a year earlier, with the highest participation recorded among those aged 25 to 54 (91.9%).

The SENSEX Index decreased -829 points or 1.08 percent on Thursday to close at 76034 points. The decline was led by Indusind Bank (-5.26%), Mahindra & Mahindra (-4.39%) and Maruti Suzuki (-3.76%).

The annual inflation rate in Namibia fell to 2.4% in February 2026 from 2.9% in the prior month, marking the fourth consecutive period of slowing price growth to the lowest since December 2020. Prices slowed down primarily for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.6% vs 1.9% in January); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.4% vs 3.8%); miscellaneous goods & services (1.3% vs 1.5%) and clothing & footwear (0.3% vs 0.7%). At the same time, declines were seen for transportation (-1% vs 1.7%) and communications (-1.6% vs -1.4%). On a monthly basis, the CPI was flat, after rising by 0.8% in the previous month.
