India’s BSE Sensex rose about 0.3% to 75,019 on Tuesday, recovering from the previous session’s losses, led by technology stocks as bargain hunting supported equities. Gains remained limited as Brent crude hovered around $107 a barrel amid ongoing Middle East tensions and supply disruptions. Among stocks, HDFC Bank was in focus after starting the process of finding a successor to CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan and submitting two candidates to the Reserve Bank of India. Coforge was also in focus after nomination committee chair D.K. Singh resigned amid internal tensions following an audit. KEC International announced new orders worth about 13.03 billion rupees, providing a positive catalyst for the infrastructure and engineering company. Meanwhile, India’s annual inflation rose to 4.82% in August from 4.45% in July, raising concerns over the inflation outlook and scope for further RBI easing. Notable gainers included Infosys (4.5%), TCS (4.6%), Zensar Tech (6.9%), and HDFC Bank (2.3%).

Sensex Recovers on Tech Gains

Iron ore futures fell below CNY 710 per ton, reaching three-week lows as weak market fundamentals continued to weigh on prices. Industry data showed global iron ore shipments increased by 1.59 million tons to 35.17 million tons in the week ended September 13, pointing to ample supply. Elevated coke prices also continued to pressure steelmakers’ profit margins, prompting some producers to scale back operations and undertake maintenance. Chinese steel demand weakened further in the third quarter amid a continued slowdown in construction activity. Data showed China’s new home prices extended their decline in August, highlighting the persistent drag from the country’s prolonged property downturn. Meanwhile, steel mills may see some incentive to replenish iron ore inventories ahead of the extended National Day holidays in early October.
