In the current environment, the British pound is being supported by relative central bank divergence. The Bank of England, while not aggressively hawkish, remains cautious about cutting rates too soon—especially with wage growth still running hot and services inflation proving sticky. The BoE is signaling a steady, quarterly pace of easing, with August penciled in for the next move, but it’s in no rush to front-load cuts.

On the other side, Australia's economic data continues to underwhelm, and markets are beginning to price in slower domestic momentum. While the RBA hasn’t committed to an easing cycle yet, weak consumer sentiment, softer employment prints, and subdued wage pressure are nudging expectations in that direction.

Add to that the UK’s trade outlook, which just got a mild boost from the U.S. trade deal headlines, and you’ve got a setup where relative growth and rate expectations favor GBP over AUD in the near term. FX is a relative game, and right now, the pound is simply standing on firmer ground.
